The #1 New York Times Bestseller
A decade-by-decade cookbook that highlights the best (and a few of the worst) baking recipes from the 20th century
Friends of baking, are you sick and tired of making the same recipes again and again? Then look no further than this baking blast from the past, as B. Dylan Hollis highlights the most unique tasty treats of yesteryear.
Travel back in time on a delicious decade-by-decade jaunt as Dylan shows you how to bake vintage forgotten greats. With a big pinch of fun and a full cup of humor, you’ll be baking everything from Chocolate Potato Cake from the 1910s to Avocado Pie from the 1960s.
Dylan has baked hundreds of recipes from countless antique cookbooks and selected only the best for this bakebook, sharing the shining stars from each decade. And because some of the recipes Dylan shares on his wildly popular social media channels are spectacular failures, he’s thrown in a few of the most disastrously strange recipes for you to try if you dare.
A few of Dylan’s favorites that are going to have you licking your lips and begging for more include:
● 1900s Cornflake Macaroons
● 1910s ANZAC Biscuits
● 1930s Peanut Butter Bread
● 1940s Chocolate Sauerkraut Cake
● 1950s Tomato Soup Cake
● 1970s Potato Chip Cookies
Baking Yesteryear contains 101 expertly curated recipes that will take you on a delicious journey through the past. With a larger-than-life personality and comedic puns galore, baking with Dylan never gets old. We’ll leave that to the recipes.

A great looking book with fantastic recipes!
I recently picked up Baking Yesteryear by Dylan Hollis, and Iâm absolutely smitten. This cookbook is a treasure trove of classic recipes that evoke the comforting warmth of homemade baking. Each page is filled with recipes that remind you of simpler times, with detailed instructions that make even the most challenging recipes seem approachable. What I love most about this book is the way it combines nostalgia with modern techniques. Hollis does an incredible job of making old-fashioned recipes feel fresh and accessible. Whether you’re craving a rich, buttery pound cake or a rustic apple pie, every recipe is presented in a way that makes you feel like youâre part of a timeless tradition of home baking. The accompanying stories and tips bring an extra layer of charm to the recipes, making this more than just a cookbookâit’s a journey through the heart of culinary history. Whether youâre a seasoned baker or just starting out, Baking Yesteryear is a must-have addition to your kitchen shelf. What a fun book!
What a fun book! Baking Yesteryear has been a great addition to my cookbook collection. The styling of the book itself is beautiful, and the plentiful photos are so appealing. B. Dylan Hollisâs writing is enthusiastic and affable as he walks you through a tour of twentieth century treats. Each recipe is introduced with interesting information presented in a personal and engaging tone. Sitting with this book and a cup of coffee feels like having a lively visit with a new friend. The recipes come a variety of complexity from very simple 3 ingredient cookies to more challenging (but completely doable) cakes with cooked frostings. Many of the recipes are familiar and nostalgic, but some were new to me. For example, I had not heard of Kiskadee Fantasy which Hollis shares as a personal favorite of his from the 1950âs. In fact, he offers a list of his favorites from each decade which I may take on as a baking challenge! There is also a very fun chapter at the very end called the Worst of the Worst. While I canât imagine that I will cook from this section, I really enjoyed laughing through his honest and hilarious takes on dishes from Jellied Meatloaf to Pickle Cheesecake.Meanwhile, I have made several treats so far and Iâm very pleased with the results. Pecan Dainties, Ricciarelli, Robert Redford Cake, Admiralâs Gingerbread, and Starchies have all turned out just as the bright photos of his bakes promised. Although Iâll admit I did not love the gingerbread or cornstarch cookies, I believe that is a matter of personal taste rather than a fault of the recipe. The other desserts I made have been a big hit in my house. And more importantly, baking from this book has just been fun. Iâve already bought my ingredients to try another round of baking my way through yesteryear.I recommend this book to anyone who enjoys cookbooks, humor, photography, baking, or nostalgia.

Well Thought out and Designed!
I’ve been a fan of Dylan’s on TikTok for a long time. He’s absolutely entertaining. I love to make wacky recipes (baked tomato soup cake for ages), and I decided to get his cookbook.I was thoroughly impressed with the design, layout and photography! He has obviously taken a lot of time and thought into planning and writing this cookbook. The recipes are organized by decade (and he includes the ones that made him almost throw up on camera in a separate section). I also appreciate the fact that he also includes measurements in grams. Ever since I’ve been baking by WEIGHT rather than volume, my baking has been absolutely consistent every time.He has beautiful full-page, color photos of some of the recipes and the instructions are perfect and well-organized. If you like to bake “weird but good” recipes, this is the cookbook to buy. I highly recommend it! A+++++++

Work your Way Through Old Recipes!!!
Every bit as hilarious as the author. I enjoyed so many of the recipes and the commentary that went with it. My brother bought this book for me for Christmas not knowing that I had sent him the same one. They even arrived the same day, and we both thought we had messed up our delivery addresses. I loved that he included a couple of the absolute worst things he had tasted, too. It is a book that took me back to some of the recipes of my childhood and some I still have in my family recipe box. I’m going to buy his newest book also.

Dylan and his cookbook are the bomb
This is the 5th time I have bought this book. They make great gifts and a great cookbook for the home. His videos are awesome also. Just don’t cook the spam chocolate chip cookies. (they aren’t in this book).

Have watched B.Dylan Hollis on you tube and had to get his cookbook. The recipes are amazing and the back stories are interesting. The explanations about every decade he takes he recipes from is very interesting especially the ones around the great depression. I have made the peanut butter bread and oh my god it is good(hubby loves it). I plan on doing more baking from this book soon. I am already looking forward to his new book.

I have just loved this book. I like to bake. The pictures are super, the recipes a blast from the past and the authors comments a gem. Watch his YouTubes too. The potato chocolate cake is a household favorite. A great gift for people that love food and history of recipes. Also the recipes are not fussy and are straight forward to make for people that are not “gourmet” level.
