It really does sing! Just practiceâ¦.
OK, so initially when I bought this, I could not get it to sing and then I ended up getting gifted a bowl that came with a slightly different sized donut to sit on and a straight wooden mallet (no velvet) and I could get that bowl to sing quite easily. So I started practicing on this one using the wooden mallet from my other bowl.So I have found that if I set this one on the palm of my hand with my hand completely flat (none of my fingers or anything except my palm touching the bowl) and hit it with the mallet on the velvet side and then turn it over and use the wooden side to âsing itâ it sings beautifully and lasts for a very long time with a gorgeous tone. Eventually youâll be able to sing it beautifully with the velvet side of the mallet.I also tried it on the little donut that came with my other bowl, which was a little smaller (less wide) and had less surface area touching the bottom/sides of the bowl and I could get it to sing as wellâ¦.but I could not get either bowl to sing with the wider cusion/donut the came with this bowl. It seemed that there was too much surface area touching the little bowls so they could not sing.Once you get it singing it has a very beautiful low tone that will last for quite some time. Iâm glad that I figured it out because I initially thought âwell..I guess Itâs just a cute little decoration that I could hit for a short toneâ but it actually does sing quite beautifully. The tone is different than my other bowl and itâs honestly quite lovely.

Sweet, a little patience is the key!
Being bored to smithereens, playing match three games and looking at insane one liner questions on Facebook, I saw this and thought, this should be fun, and a challenge. Well, I love a challenge. So, I bought this on a total whim. Having never seen, heard, or touched one in my life. I figured, âWell hey, if it doesnât work, it will make a cute little conversation piece, or a âcatch allâ for my diamond dots items. So I carefully unpacked a very well packed nicely crafted box, out came a rather nicely made little drawstring burlap bag, bearing gifts within, a cute gold and black sweetly designed little donut cushion, approximately 3 inches across. Along with two wood dowels, one with suede on one end of the darker dowel. As well as a lighter weight, softer wood dowel. Well me being a bit impatient did not read the directions, nor did I glance at them. I just set this really nice looking little bowl on its pedestal gold and red donut, grabbed the dark dowel, struck the bowl and promptly killed the vibes the moment the sueded end of the dowel touched the bowl. Okay, letâs repeat that 20 times and get nothing. Well, it makes a great bell. So I promptly repacked everything like new and told the hubby âI got ripped off! Shouldâve paid attention to the feedback. Take her to UPS, I really need that cash back. What happened? No catch all bowl? Nope itâs going back!!!â So I set it on the floor at my feet ready to ship out. But something funny happened, I couldnât stop thinking âYou didnât give me a fair chance, open me!! Try me! You arenât a quitter!â So again, out it comes, then I get the brilliant idea to You Tube it. Not a lot of help there really, but it encouraged me to not give up. So I picked up the darker dowel by the wrong end, I was holding the suede end and thought âOh well, what difference does it make? Itâs easier to hold it this way I put the bowl in the palm of my hand, but my palm is deep like a bowl, little did I realize it was stopping the bowl from doing what it was designed to do. I couldnât let the whole thing die right there. It was meant to singâ again I struck the bowl, gosh it has a nice ring, and a great reverb vibe too. I then started rather hesitantly to move the bare end of the dowel slowly around the rim, with it catching and skipping because it has a waxy feel, but wait!! Whatâs that I hear? It squeaked at me! It made a noise! Quickly realizing it was working, but my palm was muting it, I set it on a small piece of dense memory foam I had nearby! Awesomeness! A few steady turns around the bowl, and suddenly she was mine! This bowl was designed some where far away, destined for my hands to bring it to life! She sings! Beautifully! The suede end of the dowel just drags the bowl around. Thatâs not gonna work, not from my perspective. The spare dowel seems too soft of wood to get the bowl to give out vibrations. I have tried all manner of surfaces, but keep coming back to the memory foam. Bottom line donât just try one thing and say it doesnât work. Keep trying! Donât give up! This little bowl was destined for you! Give it life! I love my bowl, and will soon look for a larger one for to share my life with! This bowl makes me happy each time I use it. Who won the challenge? The bowl did of course, it won a place in my heart, life and home. Buy one and donât give up!!Cons? Zero! I like the tiny imperfections, it further makes it mine.Pros? It makes me happy! It can do the same for you!

This Bowl Does Sing
This bowl works. It takes a bit of practice (about 10 minutes for me) to get it to sing. Tap the bowl, and then rotate the leather tipped stick around the shiny top part of the bowl (not the rim like I was trying to do at first). Although the bowl is small, It is quality made, and definitely looks good. The cloth ring base that comes with it is quite small and slippery so the bowl wants to slip off it while making it sing. I find it easier to hold it in the palm of your hand. This is a great beginner bowl that is well worth the price to see if you like these things.

Great purchase!
I bought this and was so excited for it to get here. I knew it wasn’t going to be a huge bowl but I was a little bit surprised by how small it is. I am happy with the size even though I was surprised. (maybe I missed some measurements somewhere in the description) the bowl fits perfectly in the palm of my hand and sounds amazing! I played it in front of my husband and he almost fell asleep. Its very soothing and I am VERY happy with it. The only down size is I have to take my rings off when I use it because the bowl vibrates on them and it not only makes a bad sound but almost tickles my fingers, but I don’t think thats any fault of the bowl itself. I did give the sound quality a 4/5 only because sometimes it is really hard to get the sound going but if you keep trying eventually the sound kind of picks up and sounds good.

Not able to make the bowl chime using stick, well going in circular motion
The whole reason why I like Tibetan Singing Bowls is because you can in a sense get the train coming. This was a term that I overheard my coworker say that kind of cracked me up years ago. When you use the stick that comes with the bowl and glide it around the outside edge in a circular motion, it starts to create a beautiful ring sound that builds and builds the louder It gets â¦that reminds you of a train, coming down the tracks, getting louder and louder. Unfortunately, with this Tibetan singing bowl, both sticks do not create that beautiful sound. The only thing you can use the sticks for is hitting it loudly against the bowl and creating the chime effect. That is not what I was looking for when I got this and Iâm very disappointed. The sticks are cheaply made, but the bowl seems of decent quality. Guess Iâll just stick with my original one that my secret Santa got me years agoâ¦
