Update: 5 Stars Overall / 10 Stars Value
Update (original review below): This pack has been abused for the past six months and has held up very well (looks new). I put it through the washing machine recently (just removed the bladder and tied down hip straps) and it came out great. Also, the saddle pack on my bike that I had been keeping my phone, keys and money clip in broke so I started putting them in the exterior pocket of this pack. As you’ll see in my original review I originally had some concerns about stashing valuables in this pocket but over time my confidence in the pack has grown and I now have used this pouch to store valuables on may trips without any problems. My only other gripe in my initial review was that the hydration pouch need to be removed to be refilled (and I think a minor design change could alleviate this). While this is still a valid gripe the same holds true for my $$$$$ Osprey hydration pack (note: I choose this pack over my Osprey 95% of the time) and after a couple of times yanking the bladder out, refilling and reinserting it gets really easy so this is a very minor quibble. Why I Purchased: I got this for hiking and biking in TX summer heat. My other hydration pack (an Osprey Talon 22) occupies a much larger area of my back making it much hotter and it has more storage than I need for many trips.Like: By occupying a small surface area on my back it keeps me cool. Also the shoulder straps are mesh which allows them to breathe as much as possible. Sternum and hip straps keep pack in place even on the roughest mountain biking rides. Seems to be well made and I expect it to last a long time. Small exterior pouch can hold a few things. Bladder works well. I like the look of the pack.Dislike: The mesh pouch on the back has an elastic top and there are the elastic compression straps to help keep things secure and I’ve never had anything fall out. But I also don’t usually put anything important in there because I’m afraid I’m going to lose something on rough mountain biking terrain. I would have liked either snaps or velcro to secure the contents of the pouch. If it had this feature I’d be more comfortable storing my phone and keys in there. I’m considering adding some velcro myself but haven’t gotten around to it yet. Another minor gripe is that you have to remove the bladder from the hydration pack to refill. Looking at the pack I believe they could have easily designed this so that the bladder did not have to be removed to be refilled.Value: I paid $20 for this with free prime shipping. To get a hydration pack with bladder for this price is amazing. Many bladders cost this much alone. Overall I’m very happy with it. My dislikes are relatively minor. So I give it four stars irrespective of price and five stars when you factor in the awesome price.

    Great hydration pack!
I am very happy with this purchase. I have used it several times and have not had any leaks or chafing or any problems to speak of. In fact, I have been happily surprised by how well the product was made considering it’s low cost. I have carried my keys and phone and a snack bar in the outside pocket without losing any of them. And I love how the straps are designed for comfort and neatness. The waist straps don’t hang loose when the buckle is tightened, there is an elastic band to keep the extra in control. The front chest strap even has an emergency whistle! I will say that there is a slight learning curve to using the hydration pack the first time, so let me help. 1) To put the bite valve in the open position: pull it away from the tube (i.e. it does not unscrew), it extends at the base about a 1/4 inch. 2) When the bladder is in the backpack, the tube can be inserted through the shoulder straps (either one) to come out over your left or right shoulder; then there are two straps on each side to hold it in place, you can then double it back up through the lower elastic strap to hold it comfortably in place. The bite valve does not leak if left in the upright position. 3) When placing the water-filled bladder into the backpack, be sure to have the smooth side of the bladder against the back of the backpack so that it rests against your back. 4) There is a red velcro tab inside the top of the backpack to hold the top of the full bladder in place so that it hangs within the backpack (so clever!).

compact, well made, my first hydration pack
Disclaimer: this is my first hydration pack and as of writing this 8/14/2013 the pack has been used once. In the future I will update and modify the review with more tips, pros, cons, and general observations.Designed For: It says it in the name. It’s designed for trailer runners. I know it has features for the cyclist, but it’s a small hydration pack for trail running.Fitting Me: Well, my size is large (44 regular suit coat) and I don’t necessarily have a “V-Shaped” or athletic torso (how’s that for honest). The first time I wore this pack I used it both with the upper sternum strap latched and the lower waist strap latched. Because of the lack of a narrow waist the strap there would ride up over my tool shed (aka Dunlop). Half way through my run, I unclipped the waist strap and found it more comfortable and that the pack naturally would hug my shoulders rather than ride up my neck. The straps themselves would roll since they aren’t heavily padded but didn’t create any chaffing on my neck. The hydration bladder: seems pretty standard. It has a fill spout (about 3″ wide) with threaded closure. The drinking tube is also threaded where it meets the bottom of the bladder. The bite tube where you drink, however, is a little challenging for a first timer. The guide and the instructions on the bite valve itself say to twist and pull it up to get the flow going. There isn’t a noticeable spot or marking to know if you have it in the right place, you just have to twist it around until the water comes out. Not a big deal, but I never understood why a simple valve on/off isn’t installed here as a standard feature. The tube goes over the top of the straps and not under the arm (think I would prefer the under, but I haven’t formed an opinion yet).Extra stuff: One thing I was hoping for with this bladder was a place to store my phone or to attach a phone sleeve to the strap. The strap has so little real estate that it would be hard to accommodate this. As for storage, it has room for the bladder and a few personal items ala the mesh pocket (open and not zippered) on the front of the pack. Not sure what I would ever use the bungee’s for but I’m thinking I might clip the waist strap around the front under the bungees to get it out of the way.First Impressions from Day 1: Pack is average and was hoping since it was rated as a top seller on amazon that I would love this pack. Having nothing to compare it to, it gets 4 stars. The impression is: good for the price.

Even after washing the item as directed, the water smelled and tasted strongly of plastic. I returned it.
