Write your story. Reflect on your identity. Understand your emotions. And breathe, brother. Breathing as a black man, has now, more than ever, officially become an act of resistance. From Michael Brown to George Floyd, it is evident that saying “I can’t breathe” is not a cry for help worth listening to; rather, it is the green light for taking one’s life. Add to that the continued violence towards black folks in general, and black existence is seen as threatening. In addition to witnessing such racial trauma, black men specifically have often become subject to the racist narratives of society while also lacking in adequate space for healing and personal development. “breathe” serves to provide space for healing and to promote a journey to wholeness for black men. Along this 45-day guided journal journey, black men will reclaim the narrative of their own story, process the impact of their identity on their existence, and more fully understand the range of emotions that they feel. This guided journal is perfect for black men ages 16+ and will guide them through prompts and activities to which black men don’t often give thought. Great book for inmates
My bff is currently incarcerated and asked me to send him some books I think he would like ..heâs currently in a program that is helping him channel is anger amongst other things .His email about the bookâTHANKS THAT IS A WONDERFUL BOOK. I MEAN THAT.. ITâS A BOOK THAT CAN REALLY HELP ME WITH LIFE. THANKS A LOT FOR IT. IM GLAD YOU DIDNT TELL ME WHAT IT WAS BECAUSE I WOULD HAVE PROBABLY SAID SOMETHING ELSE BEFORE I GOT ITâwhen he called he voiced more about how that was a great choice of a book and he is going to give it to the lady in the program so she can go over some of the worksheets with the rest of the group ⦠He said his cell mate started reading it first and heâs super excited about it as well. Both have dealt with a lot of trauma in their life .Iâm so happy to hear that they are liking the book . I had to come leave a review on their behalf . Thank you so much for creating such a journal / book for these black men to learn and express their self. Bring them a step closer into healing .

Thoughtful Gift
I am so excited about this book. I bought it for someone special && canât wait to see how they feel about it. I read through it myself and my goodness I love it. Itâs so important to know, love , and heal ourselves && I think this book could help do exactly that. Itâs well formatted and nicely written. So glad I found it.

WORTH IT
I purchased this for my dad who isnât very emotionally sensitive, or communicative of his feelings. Heâs been having a tough time lately, and decided to get him this book to do in his spare time. The other day he told me how much he appreciated this gift! It has allowed him to reflect on his life so far and is helping him process things from different periods of his life. The fact that it is written from a black manâs perspective makes it unique to his (and othersâ) experiences which makes him connect with it even more. Well worth the money and Iâm glad it is helping him find his emotional side.

Get it Now!
A beautiful journal for young black boys, and men alike. I’d suggest to get it for the guys you love. It’s like a mini workbook/therapy session. You can use it as prompts for sons and fathers (or mothers) to talk about their son’s feelings, or to just listen and or understand them better. Men will appreciate this journal as well. My only gripe is that I wish it had more pages, even if it were just more free space for writing. I love the cover art, it’s simple but it says so much. Highly suggest, also suggest Latoya Nicole’s Mom and Son journal ( get it from B&N though).

Good starting point for healing
I purchased this book as a gift for my brother. After reading through it myself, I would give it 5 stars however I am waiting to receive his feedback before doing so. In my personal opinion, this is an excellent book every black man should own. It provides them with the opportunity to express themselves and asks questions they donât hear often enough. The first part of this journal has daily tasks to help better understand how their past created the person they are today and allows them to reflect on different experiences and emotions. The second part is repetitive but I still think itâs beneficial to this journey because it gives them the opportunity to pinpoint their emotions and express them in detail. The third part is just a bunch of pages intentionally left blank to write their life story.

An amazing journal for Black men
Iâve always had a tough time with processing my emotions. A number of black men, influenced by societal and cultural norms, obscure their identities and depict men who canât be vulnerable. My culture has always messaged to me the importance of being a hard rock devoid of feeling, but thankfully there are resources that dispel such a damaging ideology. Brennan Allan Steeleâs masterful work, Breathe, has helped me experience the freedom of letting down my emotional defenses. The activities within this journal create a space of healing and reflection. This journal has been good to my soul, and I highly recommend it to African-American males seeking a reflective journey.

Black Men- Start Here!
I purchased this book for my partner and when he started it, he immediately informed me that he was fond of it. I went on a limb from the reviews and just from my personal thoughts that this book may be a good starting point for someone to express themselves. Iâll purchase this for many of the black men in my life, especially knowing the undermine of their mental health.
