Handy to have for Several Circumstances and Work Well
We live in earthquake country on the edge of a large metropolis. For the last decade civil authorities have said to keep enough supplies on hand for a week without help, as it may take that long to reach everyone needing help. I keep a “go-bag” of emergency supplies in the car and several plastic tubs of emergency supplies in the house. Water is the biggest worry and the item that takes the most room to store. These filter straws are a great addition to my supplies.I like the fact that they filter to 0.1 micron as the other water filter straws I own only filter to o.2 microns. The instruction sheet that accompanies the 4 straws is thorough and easy to follow. The straws are easy to use. The cap on the top of the straw is linked to the straw so it wonât get lost. It doesnât take much power to draw water through the straw for drinking. A standard plastic soda bottle works with the screw threads on the bottom of the straw. One can fill the bottle with dirty water, attach it to the bottom of the filter straw. Then turn the whole thing upside down and filtered water will come out the suction end. It can be directed into a cup or a clean water bottle. The straw comes with an attached lanyard which can be worn or used to secure the straw to a belt or pack. The straw Filter comes with a sturdy, flexible, 8-inch, silicone straw. The straw can be attached to the bottom end to get one closer to a water source without needing to stick the straw in the water. This is a handy straw to take along on hikes or camping trips. I drive some long distances for work, often through sparely inhabited areas, which is why I keep an emergency bag in the car, in case of breakdowns or other unforeseen circumstances when I may be forced to spend time in wilderness areas until I can get help. This straw is a great addition. Having been sick years ago from drinking stream water high in the mountains, I have a healthy respect for the need for water filters. Iâm fortunate I didnât get Giardia on that adventure. Giardia cysts are 8-19 microns, so this straw will filter them out of lake water. Itâs also the last time I drank unfiltered water in the wilderness. I highly recommend this product to have around for emergencies and for camping and hiking. They are also good to have along when traveling into areas where clean water may not be available. Even in the USA flooding has caused normal tap water to become unsafe for periods of time. These straw filters would be nice to have in that situation.

Great to keep around for an emergency
I got the Emergency Water Straw for a recent backpacking trip, and it worked well enough. Itâs super light and easy to toss in my pack, which is great for hiking. I used it to drink from a stream, and the water tasted clean with no weird aftertaste. Itâs simple to useâjust sip through it. Not sure how long itâll last with heavy use, but for occasional trips, itâs a handy little tool to have for emergencies.

Well made, worked in muddy puddle, easy to carry/oack
The Emergency Water Straw â Portable Water Filter Straw for Survival Gear and Supplies are well made and come in a convient package. I tested one drinking out of a muddy puddle and got nice clear water out of it. We keep these on our adventure bikes for when out on the trail. I would purchase these again.

Does a very good job of cleaning water
I got to try these out and ran some water through them and they definitely will clean up dirty water. The water that came out was completely clean after running it through the straw. Short of trying to run some bacteria infected water through it (not going to be a guinea pig) it does an excellent job of cleaning water you run through it. Although I will note if you use a bottle with this it’s only works with the 20oz style bottle tops. Another thing is they don’t give you a cover for the opening to attach bottles to. Would be nice if they included this to help keep out and debris. Using this very easy and straight forward. If you use a bottle though it won’t just drain through. You’ll have to put a little bit of pressure on the bottle to force it through. I originally purchased these to put them in a bug out bag and already being loaded up with supplies, these are light weight and easy to stash in your bag.

They filter better than the competition
Ok, these are about $9.25 a piece making them very competitive price wise. They also filter down to one micron particle size which is twice as good as other brands. They come with a long bright orange lanyard for carrying. Now I tried one to test it and could blow air through and suck air very easily. After inserting the bottom end in water, sucking was only mildly difficult. Water filtered easily. After removing from the water I tried back flushing like they recommend and it was impossible. I tried hanging it upright to see if the water inside the tubes would drain out…nope. Heavy lung pressure only got one or two drops to drain. All in all, these are great to keep handy for emergency use. I worry about possible mold growing in the tubes once you use one and put it away. Maybe that won’t be a problem. What I really like is they come with a flexible straw that fits onto the intake port on the bottom so you don’t have to bend so far down to surface water. The designers also added screw threads on the bottom of the filter so a water bottle or something similar can screw on to supply water to filter. Just dunk the bottle in a creek or pond and attach to the filter. Never have to get on your knees. As I said, I think these are great for having on hand for emergencies. Perfect for hiking and backpacking too.

Good emergency straw
I keep these in bug out bags. To say they are a simple solution to clean water while on the move is an understatement – it doesnât get any simpler than this. These straws here are as well made as any others on the market, and if they cost less, I donât see why anybody wouldnât prefer them to other costlier options.

Great to have an emergencies
Tested one using pool water and nobody got sick. Iâm working on the courage to collect some ditch water and try it. Iâd like to have these for emergencies and it would behoove me to try it and test it early just to be on the safe side. When I work up enough courage I will update but for now it did purify the pool water so at least I know at some level it does work. Thereâs no reason not to give this five stars, especially for the price they are charging, everybody should get a set.
