Yes, it smells – easy fix! Beautiful mat!
When I opened the package, there was a very strong chemical smell to the mat. Think noxious fumes invading the entire level of my house. This was anything but faint. I loved the quality and pattern too much to return, so I looked on other reviews to find a solution. I’m new to yoga, so I don’t have the fancy mat cleaners. I used Mrs. Meyer’s Basil cleaner twice on both sides, but it still stunk up the room. I then moved it to the garage for a day and washed it down with Clorox wipes – better, but not something I’d want to be around, let alone put my face on. At this point I’m 2 days in and still haven’t gotten rid of the smell, so I put it outside, hosed it down with water and let it dry outside all day over a chair. The smell was finally gone! I also purchased the Gaiam blocks and there’s a reason they ship those wrapped in plastic… those reeked too! But this time I went straight outside, hosed them down and let them sit on my patio table for the day. By night, they were free of smell too. FINAL SUGGESTED REMEDY: Completely drench in water and let sit outside for the day.I’m new to yoga, but have horrible joints and was apprehensive of a 6mm mat being thick enough. It’s very comfortable! I can do gate pose on hardwood without knee pain and tree pose without feeling like there’s too much give to balance on. It rolls up and out nice without curling of the corners. I’m only a week in, so I’m definitely not as graceful, or gentle, on the mat as I will be eventually. My mat doesn’t seem to care and takes the beating with grace for me. It’s a very sturdy and patient mat. The colors I chose are no longer available (Mandala Mantra), but I love the navy and red mandala pattern. When I get tired of it I can turn it over, but not any time soon. I love the versatility!

Factory Chemical Odor
The reason I’m giving this 4 stars and not 5 is because of the harsh potent chemical smell. Iâm not sure if this is same for all yoga mats or if itâs just mine, but the odor is very strong and smells like my yoga mat was fresh off the factory press assembly line and then immediately sent to me. If you are someone thatâs sensitive to smell be sure to open this outside first to ensure it wonât stink up your house.Other than this minor negative feedback I do love everything else about my yoga mat! It has great durability and comfort. I love the cute design and for the most part stays fairly secure on my living room carpet but still slides around occasionally for certain yoga poses.

I own 4 of these, one for each member of my family. Iâve owned a lot of mats and this one is the best for a variety of reasons. Itâs comfortable, is aesthetically pleasing, and durable. Iâve paid a lot more for other mats that looked worn very quickly. When I roll the mat out my dog is quick to steal it.

I love this yoga mat! It is really pretty with lots of shades of blue creating a wave. We just bought a house with a room that has built in floor to ceiling wooden bookshelves on one wall, hardwood floors and another wall that is all windows. As you can see from the photo, it is currently a mess. This was moving day and things were stuck randomly all over the place. I intend to paint the room in a lovely green color. Something chosen from nature so that it will extend the colors you view from the windows. I think of it as a forest room and this is where I will do my yoga each day. The bright blue of the mat will make it feel like river running through the forest, or a forest by the sea. I love Gaiam mats. The 6mm mat offers plenty of cush for my knees and they come in lots of colors and styles. The price point is nice compared to some other popular brands. Maybe one day I will try a more expensive mat, but they aren’t as pretty as this one. It won’t stay there, but you can see the mat rolled up and tucked into the bookcase on the left side.

The thickness gives just enough cushioning. It definitely doesnât slip. My hands and feet stay put. It is plenty long for my 5â1â body, but Iâm sure it would work for someone 6 ft. tall. Iâve only used it for a week, so I donât know about durability. I bought Gaian because I know itâs a reliable brand. I read a lot of reviews before buying and intentionally chose one that had NO mentions of pilling or degradation. Itâs easy to roll, though it rolls up a bit wider than when I got it. I bought Gaiaâs slap band to hold it shut. I was amazed that it expanded enough to hold it. If I was going to leave the house with this, Iâd surely buy a shoulder strap carrying case. Iâm a beginner so am just starting at home with my physical therapy exercises because the bed is too soft and the floor is too hard. I planned to pack and take this on a 2 month trip to use on the tile floors. But, it would take up too much space in my suitcase. I have to travel lightly because Iâm recovering from a shoulder replacement and have a very bad back. By the way, the blue pattern of my mat is absolutely beautiful!

I am terribly disappointed with this purchase. I had brought 2 previous Gaiam yoga mats and got a year out if each. They held to the yoga studio floor and my feet. This new mat SLIPS on the ground! I have washed the mat and and still it slips. This is both annoying and dangerous. The main thing a yoga should do is NOT SLIP. I will not purchase gaiam again. I was so excited for the arrival of this mat and now I’m using it on top of my older mat to stop it slipping.Obviously their quality has dropped significantly. Buy other yoga mat brands. I also waiting nearly 2 months for this mat!

I love my yoga mat! It’s so pretty and it has a yin side and a yang side. I use the side that suits my mood, it’s great.I would love to give it 5 stars but unfortunately it gets a little bit slippery if you sweat on it and it has moved on the floor once or twice when trying to get into stretches.I still love it, use it almost daily and I live with its flaws. Because of vanity mostly.It’s not a bad mat but I wish it wouldn’t get slippery when wet. Thickness is good, it’s a tiny tiny bit to short for me 190cm and 90 kg. But the length is not s problem.
