Probably best suited for people who still have some power in their legs
This looks as it comes; it’s lightweight (8 ounces) basic plastic. I think it’s fairly priced at anywhere between $12-15. It does not feel as if it would break because the blue grips look to be screwed onto the frame. I tried it with my very elderly father who has no power in his legs and cannot stand out of a chair, but he was too scared to be pulled. He actually sat back more and gave me resistance; it was like trying to lift dead weight. So I can’t say if it would work with someone who is not fighting being pulled up by it :(. I definitely don’t think it’s a waste of money – if you take care of an elderly person you know something like this is much needed – but you might want to see if your elderly would be willing to use it before you purchase. I’m also guessing it would work better with someone who still maintains some power in the legs rather than someone like my dad. Small side note: on mine there were two places with “sharp” edges where the blue plastic was put onto the frame (I mean, from construction) – they’re not where someone would normally be putting their hands, but check and maybe put tape over anything that could scratch curious hands.

Good concept but not for everyone
I am living indefinitely with my parents — helping them as they age with multiple chronic health issues. Both of them fall occasionally and cannot get up. I have tried so many things to try to help them get up, but I cannot do it alone so we have to call the fire department. I wanted to see if this device would help us avoid calling 911.Unfortunately, my father has issues with his shoulders, knees and feet. He found this device hurt his arms too much when I tried to pull him up from a seated position in a chair, so we gave up. My mother has an exceptionally strong grip so I was able to help her get up from a seated position in a chair, but I have concerns she will fall forward because of her balance issues. When using this device for her, I think this would be best if I have a second person to steady her.I also tried this with my 20 year old daughter who has arthritic damage in her knees, wrists and ankles, but is otherwise in great shape. I was able to pull her up from the floor, but she said it hurt her hands a lot to grip the blue edge. It’s a hard plastic that is not very comfortable. It’s lightweight, and easy-to-store and transport since it is flat and not too big.For a certain type of patient, I think this device would work great. I’m not sure it’s ideal for my parents with their various physical limitations. I could see using this to help my parents sit up in bed, but not fully stand. I will keep it with my other devices for the next fall and evaluate if the situation merits trying it again. I’m giving it three stars because it’s a good device for certain situations and patients, but not ideal for everyone or every situation.
