It includes two AAA batteries, and no calibration is needed; you can use it right out of the box. The instructions are thorough, clearly explaining how to operate the device and what it monitors. If you’re unfamiliar to pulse oximeters, the guide is very useful in giving a basis.The oximeter gently clamps onto your finger using only slight pressure – keeping it secure on your finger yet still comfortable. For an accurate reading, remember to keep still and avoid talking while using the device. If you’re unsure about the accuracy of the readings, the manual provides a detailed list of potential reasons for discrepancies and suggestions for getting accurate results. If you’re monitoring while the low battery indicator is on I highly suggest replacing the batteries instead of waiting for them to run out. Using the device while the batteries are low can result with an inaccurate reading since the sensor data won’t be as strong.Once clamped onto your finger, it will continue sensing your pulse, so you’ll have to decide when the monitor has stabilized and is displaying your most accurate results. Something I wish it had was a label showing which number is pulse and which one is SpO2, the instructions will show you, but if you forget it would be quicker to read a label rather than reference the instructions. After about ~15 minutes with it on your finger and no movement, the device will auto shut off.Be cautious about how you clean the device. To protect the sensors and functionality, avoid using any harsh chemicals or getting it wet. The instructions recommend using a soft, slightly damp cloth with isopropyl alcohol to disinfect the silicone part that touches your finger.I found this to be a useful tool for quickly monitoring heart health and keeping myself informed. It’s also convenient and portable for any on the go use.
