Very tasteful
Recipes to suit everyone. From salads to sides and main protein choices. Most are very easy to make and the flavors are mouth watering. New ways to make chicken fast and tasty. Vegetables with plenty of variety and unthinkable seasoning. All around good investment.

Excellent!
I have a bad habit of falling for the allure of a new cookbook and then not using it, but this one is different. Recipes are quick and simple with few ingredients, and the flavor is amazing. I’ve made two so far and both served husband and myself with leftovers for a second dinner. I’m really looking forward to making more from this book, as well as repeating the recipes I’ve tried.

Renewed hope that I will learn to cook
Cookishâs simple recipes with shorter cook times and good flavor have already twice made it possible for me to feel like I successfully made yummy, homemade meals for my family. Nothing is more frustrating when trying to learn how to cook than recipes that take a long time and turn out meh. If I cook any recipe from anywhere, it always takes me two to three times as long to make it because Iâm a rookie. So morale in cooking adventures and trying to build cooking habits has long been low. But Iâm excited now! I actually want to pick out dinner for tonight!

A little surprising but…okay then!
Unlike most “five or less” “six or less” ingredient cookbooks, this one has only grain focused and vegetable recipes but not vegetarian So if you are looking for a stunning side for a dinner party or for a main focused on grain and eg (which is something I do) then this book has ideas for you,.There are some unusual pairings (charred brussels sprouts with dates, for example) and a lot of “Indian Inspired” and “Middle Eastern Inspired” recipes but not the actual classic dishes. Sort of “fusion” with a focus on simplifying the ingredient list. This is not my favorite cookbook from this source but it’s interesting enough. Not essential, but could be useful to fill in. Nothing stood out as “I have to make this now!”

Great for interesting flavors and low labor
There are so many things I like about this book, from how it is organized to the results. Christopher Kimball has come up with a full assortment of straightforward recipes, with variations and substitutes, that donât take a lot of work but are really interesting.I appreciate the care taken to describe the recipes as capturing the flavors of what often are much more complex dishes. Language like âinspired byâ let us know that weâre getting a hint but not the original (a distinction too often missed by less thoughtful recipe writers). Most ingredients can be found in a big box grocery store. Not a single recipe is more than two columns on a single page, and a lot of recipes are even half of a page. Even a novice home cook can tackle many of these recipes on a weeknight. even better, many (if not most) are single pot or pan recipes. If you are a home cook looking for simple dishes that invoke an array of world flavors (Mediterranean, African, Italian, Greek, etc.) with ingredients you can have or generally find, that wonât take a day to make, this is the book for you.

Great cookbook!
We have owned this cookbook for a few years now and have given it as a gift several times. We love the recipes and the ease of making them.

Spectacular!
I have a bookcase full of cookbooks from the last 50 yearsâCraig Claiborne to Ottolenghi âbut this is my new favorite. Many of these recipes are fridge to table in 30-40 minutes, including cooking time. The flavors are wonderful, the ingredients fresh, and the presentation beautiful. Fit for company, simple, elegant and delicious. The recipes also invite variation. I added white beans and a bit of apple cider vinegar to the pork with cabbage and peppers; I threw some frozen okra into the salmon with chipotle tomato sauce. What I love the most is that you can put a lovely meal on the table in half the time, without sacrificing freshness or flavor.

Not so enamored
I bought this after getting the Milk Street Vegetables cookbook, which is one of my great favorites. Although this one was highly rated, I did not find the recipes as enticing as those in Vegetables. If you need to choose between the two, you will love Vegetables for the tasty, relatively simple, and wide ranging recipes. I could live happily without this one.

I own a lot of cookbooks. This may be one of my all time favorites now. I love the variety of recipes that are not ingredient heavy. With a focus on new and unique flavors, paired with approchable ingredients and techniques, I am really impressed with this little cookbook.

Unlike some cookbooks I have purchased, this one has an index that is fully compatible with an ereader and makes it easy to search recipes!

Like all Milk Streets, it’s hard to go wrong with this. Innovative recipes with an easy ingredient list but effective techniques that make things just work.
