Good Price on A Useful Product With Comments on Afib
This supplement is good for people who do NOT get enough nuts, greens, and fish on a daily basis.Wholemega is not a substitute for Omega 3 supplements that provide higher amounts of EPA and DHA.These capsules are a bit of a challenge to swallow (I recommend something thick like Slimfast or V8) and can give a bit of a fishy aftertaste.I take both the Wholemega and Omega 3 supplements daily (for a total of 2 grams of Omega oils) but have to watch for low blood pressure and excessive bleeding because I already eat a diet high in salmon, nuts, and greens.I’ve only taken the Wholemega for a couple of weeks but the most obvious changes from five years of Omega 3 supplements have been thicker hair growth and fewer problems with osteoarthritis. My heart is healthy and my vision and memory haven’t gotten any worse but the supplements haven’t prevented recurring skin cancers.Nutrition Action has a great article online titled “Omega Medicine? – Is fish oil good for what ails you?” Here’s their bottom line:So far, there’s decent evidence that DHA and EPA–the omega-3 fats in fish oil–can reduce your risk of a heart attack, but not your risk of cancer, memory loss, or macular degeneration.- Eat fatty fish like salmon twice a week. That would supply 500 to 1,000 mg a day of DHA plus EPA.- If you’re a vegetarian, look for foods or supplements with DHA from algal oil.- If you have heart disease, follow the American Heart Association’s advice to take 1,000 mg a day of DHA + EPA from fish oil. If you have side effects like burping, take them at bedtime or ask your doctor for a prescription for pure fish oil.- Taking more than 3,000 mg a day of DHA plus EPA may cause bleeding.Addendum: After 10 years of taking 2 to 3 grams of omega three daily, I’ve developed Afib. Research suggests that taking high dosages of EPA might be a preciptating factor of Afib (search NIH database). I’m switching to a version that is higher in DHA.2015 Addendum: I switched to Now Foods DHA-500 and the Afib has been under control for two years. I still take an additional 2 grams of whatever omega 3 Costco has on sale.2016 Addendum: Prompted by comments to this post, I again reviewed scientific research of the effect of omega 3 oils on AFIB and found lots of conflicting results and conclusions. A 2008 meta-analysis of 12 controlled studies “…showed that fish oil supplementation did not have a significant effect on arrhythmias and all-cause mortality.” clinicalcorrelations.org/?p=8650.

The BEST fish oil available
I’m a big proponent of people taking fish oil. There are countless studies out there showing the benefits and importance of getting enough omega fatty acids in your diet that I believe everyone should be supplementing with it (unless you’re consuming fish multiple times per week). There are a couple things that set Wholemega apart for me:1) it’s clearly a pure and potent fish oil. For starters, you can see it in the color of the pills which are golden in color (as they should be) as opposed to most on the market which are almost clear because they are so highly processed. And on top of that, you can taste it; yes, you’ll get mild fishy burps after taking it, but that’s because this is actual fish oil. If your current fish oil doesn’t give you fishy burps, it’s probably because it’s not even fish oil and you may want to consider why you’re bothering taking it. I take Wholemega with food and really don’t even notice the fish burps afterwards. And just as importantly for me, 2) it is SUSTAINABLY sourced. This oil comes straight from wild caught Alaskan salmon, and if you follow New Chapter at all you’ll learn that the fish oil they use is actually 100% sustainable; they use the oil pressed from salmon that are already being caught for fillets, so none of the oil used in Wholemega comes from fish caught for the purpose of pressing oil like many other brands out there. One of the biggest issues in the fishing industry is over-fishing, and the fact that this is completely sustainable makes me feel better about using it.

Helped me get through a very difficult time in my life last year (2012)
I NEVER THOUGHT I WOULD BE WRITING A REVIEW FOR FISH OIL SUPPLEMENTS.I started taking these in JUNE 2012 while going through a divorce and an expensive, stressful custody battle for my son (I am the father).Somewhere I read that fish oil supplements can help with excessive stress, anxiety, fatigue etc. These fish oil caps helped me keep a clear head while not getting enough sleep for MANY MONTHS. I was amazed how effective this product was FOR ME. With the help of a great lawyer and this product my custody battle results turned out very well. When my wife was pregnant her doctor recommended taking fish oil supplements. Well my boy is 5 years old now. He is very healthy and smart. So, the medical community believes there is something to be gained for the growing fetus.Fish taste: Some if you don’t take these at the beginning or halfway through a meal. I actually am glad there is a fish taste, because that means the fish oil is unlikely to be over-processed.Fish Burps: Yes, sometimes. None if you take them at the beginning of a meal and/or empty stomach.Large capsule: True, but they slide down my throat without water. Very easy to swallow.I continue to take these daily and always keep extra stock on hand.Price is good: at the recommended 2 per day the 120 count bottle will last 2 months at $22-$25 per bottle. (I save more now: 20% with subscribe and save and 5 items per month)I am an experienced electronic engineer and believe in what works. Vitamins and supplements are one of those things that sound like a good idea but often lack positive measurable results. These caps helped me a lot and I will continue to take them indefinitely.

Great product, doesn’t have any strong taste or smell, I always take it before or during the meal, I don’t have any stomach problems so I think it is well absorbed. Skin and hair looks better, but anyone will know it who takes omega oil.
