Protect your skin or poison your body?
Sunscreens are a polarizing and a confusing topic. The medical establishment claims they reduce skin cancer and that we should use them all the time. Alternative health gurus claim sunscreens are harmful and toxic, and we should avoid them completely. To make things worse, it’s hard to trace which group or which individuals are getting funded from which sources, and whether they represent some special interests.
So what should you do?
In The Truth About Sunscreen, author Kathy Aquino takes an impartial look at the benefits and dangers of using sunscreen. She addresses the following questions:Which common sunscreen ingredients might actually be harmful to your health? Why has sunscreen use not led to lower rates of skin cancer? Can sunscreens help in preventing premature skin aging?Which sunscreens are actually effective against all types of UV radiation? What do sunscreen labels actually mean, and what should you look for?Why should you aim to get some sun exposure without sunscreen? When should you use sunscreen, and which types of sunscreen should you use? What natural alternatives are there to using commercial sunscreens, and how well do they work? Are commercial sunscreens killing coral reefs and harming ocean environments? The Truth About Sunscreen does more than just answer these questions. It ends with specific recommendations about sun exposure and sunscreens that you can apply easily to your everyday life, year round.

We should all know this stuff!
Because I’m an avid sun lover with years racked up under the sun’s rays, and also a mom that worries about the right choice of sunscreen every time we head to the beach, I was really surprised at what I learned about melanoma and Vitamin D from this quick, pleasurable read. The Truth about Sunscreen is well researched and informative, and I’ll certainly be reading the back of every sunscreen bottle I pick up looking for retinyl palmitate!

Helpful
The author has done the research to figure out a complex situation, sorting through a mire of information. Nothing radical but lots of helpful information.

Very Informative Book On Sunscreen
The author did a great job of explaining the different types of sunscreen and which UV rays are blocked to what degree. The pros and cons are laid out well which should provide the reader with adequate information on what type of sunscreen to use and whether or not there is too much risk to use it.

Does not add much to the well known information
Chances are if you have seen a dermatologist any time in your life, the doctor strongly recommended that you use sunscreen. Do we need a non-medical professional to add to this? The good news is that this short book is not anti-sunscreen. On the negative side, she does not add much to the information most of the readers already know.Ali Julia review

very informative
This is a great quick read for anyone wanting to know more about sunscreen and sun exposure in general. No dogmas or one way is right speeches; just objective information for readers to apply to their own lives. Highly recommend.

An abundance of importance
The author has given great information, not only on sunscreen but also Vitamin D. We have experienced this in our family; sunscreen blocking Vitamin D. As a result skin cancer showed its ugly self. Now that the Vitamin D levels have been increased and the sunscreen is out of the picture there has been no more skin cancer.
