Customers say
Customers find the sunscreen effective at protecting against UV rays and appreciate that it’s gentle on sensitive skin without causing irritation. However, the product receives mixed feedback about its appearance, with several customers noting it makes their skin look ghostly or ashy. Moreover, customers report issues with the product’s thickness, describing it as heavy and difficult to rub in, and the white residue is problematic, particularly on darker skin tones.

Try this before you give up!
At first I was a little skeptical about the product because everyone seemed to dislike the quite obvious white cast, but had decided to try it because I like the formulation and I needed a sunscreen badly! When I first tried it, I found that it was difficult to spread because of how thick and concentrated it is, and yes, it leaves quite a white cast this way…and my skin is pretty white. I also did notice that it made me break out on my arms where I mainly used it…I was just about ready to give up on this sunscreen until…bum bum bummmmmm. If you take a dab of the product on one hand, then take the other hand and run your fingertips through water so they are a little damp, not drenched, then massage the lotion together with both hands first, and then apply to your body…you will find that it is a LOOOOT easier this way; it helps the ingredients dissolve a bit better, it spreads better, it has noticeably less white cast, and you can layer it on like this. I actually feel better coverage overall, and you can visibly see an actual sheen reflecting off light, as is how these mineral sunscreens are supposed to work. Try it before you give it up.

strong coverage
Iâve got really sensitive skin, and this sunscreen gives me long-lasting protection. I like sunscreens with more zinc minerals because I donât have to reapply them as often, and theyâre better for my skin. This product has everything I need. It does leave a bit of a white cast, but a little goes a long way, and itâs easier to blend in with some rubbing.

Good sun protector but leaves white residue if you dislike that
Good sun protection cream. I never use this high of SPF normally, but with age, have been feeling my skin become more sensitive to long periods in the sun. Thought this was not bad for the price point, especially for this brand, CeraVe, which I found recently for moisturizers and really like. I will say that it is not super easy to put on, and it is visible as a white film/layer on the skin, especially if you have a darker skin tone. Otherwise, it does the job of protecting my skin under high heat well. No issues yet!

If you want to look like a ghost
Non greasy yes but not moisturizing either. It looks like a thin white paste layered on top of your skin. It’s not hard to blend in but it never blends all the way in. It definitely has a white cast. It looks ghostly. Embarrassing. I haven’t used it on my face so I don’t know if causes breakouts or stinging of the eyes. I didn’t experience any discomfort or rash just an aggravating white cast that looks smeary. I made the mistake of wearing a black blouse for an out of town meeting and it kept rubbing off on my shirt. It wouldn’t wipe off so I had to deal with these white smears and streaks all over my top and my ghostly white arms. Said I would never wear it again. A week later, I decided to put it on my legs because I was doing yard work, thought I’d give it a try again, smeary white ghostly legs, oh well I’m home no one can see me. Later that day before bed, I noticed my legs again and thought wow they’re still covered with white gunk. I had to rub really hard with a wet cloth to get it off and the cloth was covered in what looked like white clown makeup. I thought that’s it! I hate this sunscreen. I’m never wearing it again! I just ordered some banana boat. I’ve used that for years. I just wanted something maybe more environment and skin friendly. This was a waste of money that I can’t return because I didn’t try it right away and the return window even though I still have almost a full tube. I just assumed it was good because it’s Cerave.

This was just right.
I wanted a sunscreen that didn’t cause cancer. This is all natural and works perfect.

It a no from me. Its works but the cons are just to much for me to get past.
I really wanted to like this and had high hopes for it since I love my CeraVe lotionsThe good – it does provide adequate sun protection. I burn easily and need to reapply sunscreen approx every 30 mins (no matter the spf or brand recommendation) and in the time i was out in the sun i didnt get burned i did however feel my skin getting hotter then usual which was uncomfortable. The things I dont like – this sunscreen never really dried and/or soaked in. It just sat as a greasy feeling layer on my skin and face. Weirdly also leaves a slight white cast (which does fade so i guess that helps you know where you put it i guess for even application)Because it just sat as a layer on me it made me very uncomfortable which in turn makes me itchy (not an allergic reaction itch just an i dont like this feeling itch)On my face it just made me look greasy, not a youthful glowy dewy look, nope like full on greasy like a pizza just out the oven grease. Im not keen on that, i dont mind a little shine but my face was practically reflecting the sun (technically thats a plus as that means my face wasnt getting bombarded with uv light)The worst for me was it transferred to everything I touched, my black leather like car seats had white residue all over them after sitting in the car and it was really hard to get off of them.Just beaware when buying this it may not work out for you.

Not a win
I decided to try a variety of zinc oxide sunscreens this year. I know they have a reputation for being very thick and not rubbing in well. I was looking to find something in a reasonable price range that didnât feel disgusting or leave me looking like a mime. This one met the reasonable price range, and I think it was effective as a sunscreen. However, it felt disgusting and left me looking totally white, and I rubbed very hard for a very long time to try and get it rubbed in. Definitely not a win in the zinc oxide sunscreen realm.I also tried the Think brand which was in a similar price range. It rubbed in much better. I donât love the feel of it, but itâs definitely an improvement over the Cerave. I donât know if I can expect a lot more at this price point. Most of the more popular brands are double the price or more.
