Customers say
Customers find the thermometer easy to use with a big digital display and appreciate its quick temperature readings within seconds. The device provides accurate measurements with handy reference temperatures printed on the back, and customers consider it good value for money, comparing it favorably to more expensive models. The magnetic feature is extremely handy for storage, and while the build quality seems solid, some report issues with the plastic hinge breaking after prolonged use.

Easy to use. Love that prong is safely stored in handle.
Very easy to use and gives an accurate reading very quickly.
Jon P. Thompson –
Very accurate, fast response and shuts itself off.
These are great thermometers for smoking and grilling meat. I think they are the best and I cook a lot of meat!

One minor flaw
All the good things said about it are right. After five years, the plastic hinge broke as a couple other reviews have said. Five years and a lot of usage is fine with me and I have another on order.

Great for outdoor grilling!
This little probe has improved my grilling results by taking the guesswork out of measuring done-ness. It registers temperature quickly, usually under 3 seconds, and the display is bright enough to see even in the crazy bright North Carolina summer sunshine, yet not blinding in the dark of night. Results are slightly slower in colder weather, and can take up to 8 seconds or so if it’s in the 50-60 degree F range, but that is to be expected due to the cooler initial probe temperature. I have not tried this in the dead of winter and the time will probably be up to 30 seconds if the probe begins the measurement from freezing. The folding construction is nice and keeps the very sharp probe tip from accidentally skewering fingers, and the effort required to open and close it feel appropriate to hold the probe at any angle, from fully closed to fully open. Folded or open, it weighs appropriately for its size and feels good in-hand.Default temp scale is chosen with a physical switch, so it stays at the units you select, Fahrenheit or Celsius (it is inside the water-resistant battery door, so it’s a set-and-forget option) and a handy magnet allows mounting on the side of the grill’s tray (not the hot part–it would melt) or your fridge. The display intelligently flips to enable reading no matter which angle you are holding it at, but if you take readings with the unit being almost flat on its back, it is possible to see the display flip to display numbers upside down. Fortunately, a slight change of angle is all that’s needed to set the display right. There is a hold button on the front of the display which will pause the temperature reading from changing for those who may have trouble registering the value when the display temperature changes quickly or is useful to keep the temperature on screen if you had to put the probe in the roast at an angle where seeing the display was difficult. Hold time is around 1.5 seconds.A handy key for temperatures of various meats is on the back by type, but only for common meats, so if you’re making Brontosaurus burgers, you’ll have to do your own research. No complaints here about this handy, compact, functional product! I’ve owned this product for around 4 months with no battery changes (it’s 1xAAA) required yet, and I am happy to recommend it!

Great upgrade
Best one Iâve owned so far. Switchblade style is more convenient than I thought it would be. Water has cost me 4 other Quick read digital thermometers. This one is waterproof. Turns off when rod is closed. Set it down it will turn off after 15 to 20 seconds but tapped, bumped or nudged it reactivates. Very useful tool

Great, solid quality. What’s there to unlike? Works like a charm. One of my best buys from Amazon!

I was originally considering buying the much touted but quite expensive ThermaPen MK4 instead, but I decided to take a chance on this less expensive ThermoPro. Both use “thermocouple” technology for measuring temperature (as opposed to thermistor technology), which can produce faster read times and allow for the temperature sensor to be positioned further into the tip of the probe. I especially liked the idea of the sensor being in the tip of the probe, and having the speed and accuracy to be able to read temperature gradients at each layer and area within the food.In any event, the technology details are irrelevant unless it’s designed and assembled properly. And I have not been disappointed thus far. The ThermoPro TP19 seems to be able to read the various temperature gradients and seems more than adequate for the purposes of general kitchen use.Read times are usually within a few seconds and after testing the calibration with a specially prepared ice bath (using an insulated container filled at least 70% full with ice and topped up and stirred with cold water and then taking the temperature after letting it sit 10 mins and looking for 0.0 Celsius reading), I also have confidence in the temperature readings. There was some fluctuation when I was taking the ice bath temperature, which amounted to + or – about half a degree celsius depending on where I measured, how long the ice bath had been sitting, and how well stirred the water was , but even if it was out a full degree or two, that is more than enough accuracy for my purposes. The more important factor is speed for me, and the ThermoPro is also adequate on that front. Yes, the ThermaPen MK4 might be faster to give readings (and while I have not tested both side-by-side comparing read times, others online have), but it’s also more than double the price (and perhaps 3x the price, especially for Canadians with USD-CAD exchange, shipping, duties, etc).Overall, I think this is good value and will suit most people.
